Why me What you get

A boutique practice, built on personal service.

Personal service

You work with me directly, on a personal level. I tailor my services to your situation and work toward a fair result that best fits your needs.

Four decades of practice

I’ve practiced law since 1985, and that experience is my most valuable asset. It lets me apply the law to a wide range of problems as affordably as possible.

Rooted here

I was born in Aspen, the son of a 10th Mountain Division soldier. The mountains, rivers, and valleys of the Roaring Fork are part of who I am.

About James A. Knowlton

It isn’t enough to be clever in arguing the law.

Or to be a tough negotiator. A good lawyer organizes, orchestrates and balances competing interests to get the client the best result that the law allows. That is the value I bring to every client: I customize my services to best fit each client’s needs within the rule of law.

Also statewide, online

I also help people all over Colorado online with basic legal issues: estate planning, property boundary issues, HOA questions and landlord tenant issues. Many don’t have easy access to a lawyer, or are exploring less expensive options.

Access to justice is something I believe in, and I do my part, as I did at Roaring Fork Legal Services, which grew into Alpine Legal Services. It’s a small but important part of my practice.
